A Secure Azure Workspace for Immigration Analytics

OpsRabbit helped an immigration technology business move sensitive client work from personal laptops into a controlled Azure workspace.

    Value

The delivery established a controlled working environment for immigration analytics and retained Azure skills, scripts, run evidence, and handover documentation for reuse. Engineers approved changes and validated results throughout the engagement.

    Story detail

    Challenge

The customer is an immigration technology and analytics business serving immigration law firms and corporate mobility teams. Its work spans reporting, dashboards, data quality, and process automation. The Azure workspace provided the secure technology foundation supporting that work.

Sensitive client work needed to move from personal laptops into a controlled environment. The requirements extended beyond virtual machines: identity, remote access, data movement, browsing, email, business software, endpoint guidance, and handover had to work together.

When delivery knowledge is scattered across tickets, command histories, and individual engineers, consistent execution and ongoing operation become harder. The engagement needed both a controlled workspace and a record of how it was built and how to operate it.

    OpsRabbit approach

The delivery team translated nine workstreams into tasks OpsRabbit could investigate or support through command-line tools and reusable skills. Engineers tested native capability first, added focused Azure skills where needed, ran approved actions, and validated the resulting state.

An OpsRabbit investigation identified the minimum licensing needed for the planned MFA implementation, making a concrete dependency visible during delivery. The delivery owner also reviewed OpsRabbit's VM work and accepted it as producing the expected output.

The team retained the tested skills, run links, access records, and handover material. An additional operational workstream produced six PowerShell scripts to start and stop the three VMs; that workstream was also marked closed.

    Delivery model

OpsRabbit supported understanding requirements, planning actions, executing approved steps, investigating constraints, validating results, and retaining knowledge. Engineers kept authority over privileged changes, cost-bearing resources, customer approvals, and interactive device steps. OpsRabbit supported repeatable investigation and execution, with evidence retained for review and future reuse.

    Strategic takeaway

For immigration technology teams, sensitive client work needs a controlled operating environment alongside the analytics and automation customers rely on. This engagement delivered that foundation and preserved the operational knowledge needed to maintain it.

The example is relevant to teams building analyst workspaces, reviewing access controls, or standardizing cloud environments. It shows how OpsRabbit can support approved operational work, surface dependencies, and retain skills and evidence while engineers remain accountable for the result.

    What was done

Delivered a documented three-VM Azure workspace for production, development, and restricted administration.

Configured role-aligned access with Microsoft Entra ID, point-to-site VPN guidance, MFA controls, and an access matrix.

Documented controls for approved browsing, domain-based account use, external attachments, clipboard and file transfer, encrypted storage, endpoint-security guidance, and administrator handover.

Impact - Rapid AND secure onboarding

Rapid and repeatable onboarding of approved laptops - controlled Azure workspace.
Supported sensitive client work with role-based access, VPN connectivity, MFA controls, and documented restrictions on clipboard use, file transfer, and external attachments.
Administrator can now use tested Azure skills so the setup can be reused when team members join or responsibilities change.
Individually configurable skills delivered for additional VM start and stop, PowerShell scripts for day-to-day operations.
